David Beckham who is a very well know soccer (football player) was attempting to play in his 4th World Cup this summer in South Africa. The world cup s held every four years, so not many player are able to do this at the top levels of the sport. It seemed like he would be chosen to play for England which has to name their 23 players in a couple of months
On Saturday March 13th, he gave an interview and stated "I'm not guaranteed to go to South Africa at all. I have to work hard and then, hopefully, win my place. There are a good few months left in the season and plenty of games to play but, hopefully, I can carry on playing well and can get in the squad."
Does there feel some doubt or lack of confidence about going to the world cup in his mind, especially if he were to add meaning to the fact he was left on the bench or didn't get to play in the prior week?
On March 14th, he was playing for his Italian team, playing a regular game. He was ready to take a free kick, with no other players near him and felt a pop. He had torn his LEFT achilles tendon and had to undergo surgery, and will now miss the World Cup.
He now knows he will not play, compared to before when he was waiting to be selected.
Is this a coincidence or did he unconsciously create this situation to avoid potential rejection?
Is there anything you can learn from an example like this? Is rejection at our lesser everyday level in life so bad? Or are we attaching a meaning to it and a story?
